Chapman (ASN: 1551289), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, American Expeditionary Forces, for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Private Chapman distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with Battery F, 76th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action near Cierges, France, 4 November 1918, while unloading and guarding high-explosive ammunition and carrying fuses to a place of safety during an enemy bombardment.
