By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Sergeant LeRoy W. Brower (SN: 551701), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Company I, 38th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, during the fighting on the Vesle, 8 August 1918, Sergeant Brower showed particular courage by taking a platoon in the face of heavy machine gun fire to the river’s edge and succeeded in taking and holding an important bridge.

Sergeant Brower distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with Company I, 38th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action near Connigis, France, 17 July 1918, while on a patrol which established liaison between the 38th and 30th Infantry Regiments.
