By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Captain (Infantry) Lawrence H. Bixby, United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with the 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, on the morning of 15 July 1918, near Fossoy, France, during the Second Battle of the Marne, Captain Bixby’s company having been relieved from the front lines and placed in support, Captain Bixby, turning his command over to the next senior, volunteered to drive a motor vehicle filled with small arms ammunition, to the front lines in answer to an urgent call, over a shell torn road under direct observation of the enemy. He accomplished this feat at the imminent risk of his life, and returned to his command.
