No. 43, W.D., 1918), Private First Class Bernard Appel (ASN: 2032214), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, American Expeditionary Forces, for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Private First Class Appel distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with Medical Detachment, 310th Engineer Regiment, 85th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action near Obozerskaya, Russia, on 3 November 1918, while bringing in enemy wounded to the dressing station under shell fire.
