The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private George A. Weber (MCSN: 413983), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving with Company G, Second Battalion, Twenty-second Marines (Reinforced), First Provisional Marine Brigade in action against enemy Japanese forces on Parry Island, Eniwetok Atoll, Marshall Islands on 22 February 1944. Steadfast and courageous in the face of heavy and continuous hostile mortar and machine gun fire, Private Weber rendered valuable service during the battle for Parry Island. On one occasion, he expertly maneuvered around an enemy machine gun to destroy it with grenades and rifle fire, relieving advancing troops who were pinned down by the devastating fire. By his courageous action, initiative and devotion to duty, Private Weber contributed materially to the success of the operations against the enemy and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
