Sergeant Greenwood distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with Headquarters Company, 121st Field Artillery, American Expeditionary Forces, in action near Tartiers, France, northwest of Soissons, France, 29 August 1918, in voluntarily repairing telephone wires under heavy fire.
