By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Captain (Infantry) Lewis Grangent, United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving in Command of Company I, 30th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, during the battle and advance of 23 – 26 July 1918 around Charteves, France and Jaulgonne, Captain Grangent, in spite of the danger of the situation, led his men skillfully and thought hey were without rations he had them make the required advance and was able to maintain and consolidate his position until relieved the nigh of 25 – 26 July.
