By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Captain (Infantry) Lewis Grangent, United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, American Expeditionary Forces, for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Captain Grangent distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with the 30th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action near Charteves and Jaulgonne, France, on 23 – 26 July 1918, and by his brilliant leadership.

While serving in Command of Company I, 30th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, during the battle and advance of 23 – 26 July 1918 around Charteves, France and Jaulgonne, Captain Grangent, in spite of the danger of the situation, led his men skillfully and thought hey were without rations he had them make the required advance and was able to maintain and consolidate his position until relieved the nigh of 25 – 26 July.
