While serving with Company F, 30th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Private German rendered valuable service near Jaulgonne, France 26 July 1918, when he crawled forward and opened fire on an enemy machine gun emplacement. The machine gun fired upon him and his platoon leader was able to locate and capture this gun.
