Freeman (ASN: 1039126), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, American Expeditionary Forces, for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Corporal Freeman distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with Battery F, 10th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action near Mezy Bridge, France, 14 July 1918, in continuing to fire his piece point-blank into the enemy.

Freeman (ASN: 1039126), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Battery F, 10th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Corporal Freeman displayed exceptional heroism near Mezy, France, 14 July 1918. After his Chief of Section had been killed, Corporal Freeman assumed command of a detached piece which had been placed in the advanced infantry line to guard the Mezy Bridge. He continued to fire his gun even after the enemy machine guns began to fire upon him at a distance of three hundred meters.
