By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Sergeant Earl F. Drury (ASN: 54806), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Company L, 30th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Sergeant Drury displayed exceptional heroism in action at Crezancy, France, on 15 July 1918, repeatedly exposing himself to heavy shell fire in order to give first aid. On 23 July, after all other sergeants of his platoon were casualties, Sergeant Drury, with the greatest devotion to duty and regardless of personal danger, consolidated small groups of men, thus aiding greatly in the advance.
