By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Private Pasquale DeRosa (ASN: 542477), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, American Expeditionary Forces, for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Private De Rosa distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with Company I, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action at Fossoy, France, 14 – 15 July 1918, in administering first aid to his captain under heavy shell fire.

    By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Private Pasquale DeRosa (ASN: 542477), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Company I 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, on the night of 14 – 15 July 1918, at Fossoy, France, during intense artillery preparation by the enemy, Private DeRosa exhibited extreme personal heroism and loyalty to Captain J. L. Walthall, his Company Commander. He was with him on his way to the front line when Captain Walthall was seriously wounded by shell fire. Private DeRosa attempted alone to carry the officer to safety and being unable to carry him administered first aid, went to the Company Post of Command and led back litter bearers and brought Captain Walthall to shelter, all while under heavy artillery bombardment. His loyalty and solicitude reached such a height for his Captain, that he became utter oblivious to his own exhaustion or danger.
