By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), First Lieutenant (Infantry) William Davidson, United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, American Expeditionary Forces, for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. First Lieutenant Davidson distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with the 28th Infantry Regiment, 1st Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action at Cantigny, France, 28 – 30 May 1918, in bringing up rations under heavy shell fire.

First Lieutenant Davidson distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with the 28th Infantry, 1st Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action during the operations connected with the capture and defense of Cantigny, France, 27 to 31 May 1918. First Lieutenant Davidson on the night of 28 – 29 May 1918, advanced through heavy shell fire and established liaison with his battalion in order to deliver water and rations; on the night of 29-30 May 1918, he successfully conducted a party of 45 recruits through shell fire to their organizations.
