By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Sergeant Michael Dalton (ASN: 1062352), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with the Medical Detachment, 18th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Sergeant Dalton, while on duty with the 1st Battalion, 18th Field Artillery, at La Perle Farm, though continuously under high explosive and gas shell fire, remained at his post and administered first aid in a careful and efficient manner, during the period 14 to 17 July 1918. Sergeant Dalton frequently, during both day and night, on his own initiative, and without regard for personal safety, crossed the open country under severe shell fire, and brought wounded to a place of safety.
