Cowger (ASN: 1448638), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, American Expeditionary Forces, for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Sergeant Cowger distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with Company G, 137th Infantry Regiment, American Expeditionary Forces, in action near Montrebeau Woods, France, 29 September 1918, in assisting in carrying a wounded comrade to a place of safety under intense machine gun and artillery fire.
