The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Harold Simon, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 4th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in 21 June 1944. During the course of an operation, Lieutenant Simon’s battalion seized its objective but became isolated by hostile elements. Enemy lines up to platoon strength severed supply lines and ambushed supply trains endeavoring to bring up; ammunition. Aware of the severity of the situation, Lieutenant Simon organized a supply train and prepared to guide it forward. Advancing under cover of darkness, he led the group in fighting its way to its destination. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
