The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant William H. Rosenberg, United States Army, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while serving with the 4th Infantry Division during World War II. Acting as Platoon Sergeant, Sergeant Rosenberg made his way across a strip of inundated area heavily raked by direct artillery and machine gun fire in order to rescue his platoon’s casualties. Despite the heightened intensity of enemy fire and the difficulty of movement across the area, Sergeant Rosenberg made three trips across the 300-yard interval. By his action he saved the lives of several seriously wounded men. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
