Headquarters, 4th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 43 (1944)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Infantry) Frederick C. Maisel, Jr. (ASN: 0-418335), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company I, 8th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division, in action on Cotentin Peninsula, France, on 6 June 1944. Captain Maisel led his company across the beach on the Cotentin Peninsula under heavy effective enemy artillery fire. He proceeded on his assigned mission, meeting strong enemy opposition from strongpoints at Germain. Organizing supporting fire and an assault group, Captain Maisel personally led the attack, capturing fifty Germans and three 88-mm. guns. Captain Maisel displayed great courage and calm effective leadership with utter disregard for his own life. His example inspired his men to substantially greater effort and reflects great credit upon himself and the Military Service.
