The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Joseph E. Della Penna, United States Army, for gallantry in action against an enemy of the United states while serving with the 4th Infantry Division in Germany, on 4 April 1945. The initiative and courage displayed by this enlisted man reflects great credit upon himself and the armed forces of the United States.
