(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: First Lieutenant (Infantry) Steve J. Ceskowski (ASN: 0-1290551), United States Army, was awarded the Silver Star (Posthumously) for gallantry in action while serving with the 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division, at Normandy France, on 12 June 1944. Lieutenant Ceskowski was fatally wounded by machine gun fire while moving forward with a few of his men, knocking out enemy machine gun nests in the path of his advancing company. Upon reaching the foot of the hill, Lieutenant Ceskowski, without regard for his personal safety, moved forward with a few men and knocked out an enemy machine gun nest which was firing on his troops. All this time he was encountering artillery, machine gun and small arms fire, and was mortally wounded by another machine gun he was attempting to knock out. Lieutenant Cerskowski’s actions were an inspiration to his men who went on to knock out their machine guns and take their objective.
