The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fifth Grade Lawrence Russell Seaman (ASN: 33161593), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company H, 328th Infantry Regiment, 26th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy near Eschdorf, Luxembourg, on 24 December 1944. In the vicinity of a crossroads before Eschdorf on 24 December 1944, a number of friendly riflemen were wounded by the fire of an enemy machine gun emplaced on high ground overlooking the sector. Technician Fifth Grade Seaman, a Company H motor corporal, and a comrade volunteered to drive a quarter-ton vehicle through the enemy’s zone of fire and under hostile 88-mm. fire which covered their route. The two men courageously made three separate trips and succeeded in evacuating twelve wounded soldiers. The last two trips were made after enemy machine gun fire during the first trip had riddled their quarter-ton vehicle with bullet holes and shattered the windshield. His outstanding courage under fire, strong initiative and commendable solicitude for our wounded reflect the highest credit upon Technician Fifth Grade Seaman and the armed forces of the United States.
