(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: First Sergeant James A. Keating (ASN: 20101627), United States Army, was awarded the Silver Star (Posthumously) for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy, while serving with the 26th Infantry Division during World War II. While returning to his command post, he observed that one of his men, struck in both legs by enemy fire, lay in an exposed position. With utter disregard for his own personal safety, he crawled forward to the wounded man, dragged him to a nearby foxhole and covered him by fire of his own weapon. He then called the aid man and covered them, too, as they maneuvered to the foxhole. While the wounded man was being removed, First Sergeant Keating was hit in the shoulder, but he continued his fire persistent in covering the evacuation of the casualty but was struck by a burst of an enemy’s machine gun.
