Headquarters, 26th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 101 (1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Frank E. Harr, United States Army, for gallantry in action against the enemy, while serving with the 26th Infantry Division during World War II. On D-Day plus two, Sergeant Harr landed on Omaha Beach, France, and pushed toward St. Lo. On 17 June, while his unit was supporting an infantry advance, Sergeant Harr’s tank was hit by enemy anti-tank fire, which wounded the driver and disabled the tank. With utter disregard for his own life, Sergeant Harr ran under fire, to another tank and directed it to a point where it would furnish cover for him while he got the wounded driver out. He was successful in this attempt and the man was evacuated to an air station. The courage and loyalty displayed by Sergeant Harr reflect great credit upon him and the military service. About one hour after aiding the wounded driver, Sergeant Harr was wounded in the head and left eye by artillery fire.
