Headquarters, 37th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 73 (April 2, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Arthur W. Wright (ASN: 33122425), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company E, 2d Battalion, 148th Infantry Regiment, 37th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy at Luzon, Philippine Islands, on 15 February 1945. Staff Sergeant wright and his squad were ordered to attack a Japanese-held house in Manila. Taking three men, he entered through the rear door under a hail of rifle and grenade fire. No resistance was encountered on the first floor but heavy rifle fire barred their path up the staircase to the third floor. When one of his men was wounded, Staff Sergeant Wright mounted the stairs step-by-step, delivered point blank fire, destroying the enemy and permitting the evacuation of his comrade. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Staff Sergeant Wright, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
