Headquarters, 37th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 262 (August 18, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technical Sergeant Travis H. Watts (ASN: 38409722), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company C, 1st Battalion, 129th Infantry Regiment, 37th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy at Luzon, Philippine Islands, during World War II. Near Baguio on 12 April 1945, Sergeant Watts displayed great courage and exceptional fortitude in rescuing a seriously wounded comrade from the field of intense enemy fire, and half dragging, half carrying him 75 yards to a covered position. Sergeant Watts remained with the casualty for six hours, administering all available first aid, until, under the cover of darkness he helped carry him an additional 200 yards over difficult terrain to medical attention and safety. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
