The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Chief Warrant Officer Sayre L. Shulters (ASN: W-2129638), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Service Company, 148th Infantry Regiment, 37th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy at Luzon, Philippine Islands, on 7 February, 1945. When the Japanese shelled the Malacanan Palace some of our men were wounded and were lying out in the open unable to move to cover. Mister Shulters received word that rescuers were needed immediately. Leaving his position of safety within the Palace building, he ran through shellbursts to a place where he knew a casualty was located. When twenty five yards from the wounded man, Mister Shulters was struck by a mortar shell and mortally wounded. Home His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
