The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fifth Grade Durad H. Segers (ASN: 34820081), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 148th Infantry Regiment, 37th Infantry Division in action against the enemy at Luzon, Philippine Islands, on 2 February 1945. During the advance against the enemy at Plaridel, a number of Japanese riflemen had been by-passed in well-camouflaged foxholes and were harassing our troops. Technician Fifth Grade Segers, arming himself with grenades, began to comb the area. One after another he located the snipers, dashed through their fire to within a few yards of their dugouts, and threw grenades to destroy them, thus curtailing the number of casualties among our men. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Technician Fifth Grade Segers, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
