Headquarters, 37th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 94 (April 22, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Clifford C. Schlosser (ASN: 20506495), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 148th Infantry Regiment, 37th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy at Manila, Luzon, Philippine Islands, on 14 February, 1945. While his company was engaged in a fire fight with the enemy, Private Schlosser observed the Japanese attempting to place a machine gun in a position which would have prevented the advance of our troops. He left a covered position, crawled forward, and succeeded in killing the enemy soldiers who were carrying the gun. He then continued to interdict the area with rifle fire, preventing the Japanese from reaching the machine gun, and contributing directly to the successful accomplishment of his company’s mission. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
