The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fourth Grade Marshall L. Ruhno (ASN: 36404103), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 140th Field Artillery Battalion, 37th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy at Luzon, Philippine Islands, on 11 February 1945. Technician Fourth Grade Ruhno, while operating a radio at an observation point in the city of Manila, was subjected to intense fire from an enemy heavy mortar. Shrapnel landing in his position scattered sections of his radio about and wounded him painfully. Disregarding his injuries, Technician Fourth Grade Ruhno doggedly reassembled the radio and restored communications so that our artillery could place effective fire on the enemy. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Technician Fourth Grade Ruhno, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
