The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fifth Grade Sellers B. Rogers (ASN: 34054699), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the Medical Detachment, 148th Infantry Regiment, 37th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy at Luzon, Philippine Islands, on 14 February 1945. Technician Fifth Grade Rogers, a Medical Aidman, was attached to a company which was engaged in a fire fight with Japanese forces and was being subjected to heavy rifle, machine gun, and mortar fire. When word reached him that a man had been hit fifty yards in front of our lines he started forward. As he advanced he was wounded by a mortar fragment. However, he continued on, reached the man, administered preliminary first aid, and, although hit again by rifle fire on the return trip, succeeded in bringing the casualty back to our lines. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Technician Fifth Grade Rogers, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
