The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Field Artillery) John F. Robohm, III (ASN: 0-1165443), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 6th Field Artillery Battalion, 37th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy at Luzon, Philippine Islands, on 5 April 1945. When his artillery battery received heavy fire from enemy guns, resulting in twelve men wounded and one killed, Lieutenant Robohm, the battery executive officer, left his fox hole despite the intense shellfire, personally supervised evacuation and carried out five of the wounded men himself. By his prompt action in getting the wounded medical aid, Lieutenant Robohm was partly responsible for preventing the amputation of one man’s foot and the arm of another. He inspired his men to great effort, enabling the successful displacement of the battery to a place of safety. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
