Headquarters, 37th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 287 (September 6, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant [then Sergeant] Stanley A. Robak (ASN: 37146150), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company G, 2d Battalion, 129th Infantry Regiment, 37th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy at Luzon, Philippine Islands. During the advance across Clark Field on 28 January 1945, one of the leading scouts set off a mine, fragments of which wounded him seriously and also painfully injured Sergeant Robak. The explosion of the mine warned the enemy, who immediately opened fire with machine guns, 20-mm. guns and mortars. However, Sergeant Robak ran to the side of his wounded comrade, and succeeded in ádragging him to a position of partial cover. Although able to use only one arm, Sergeant Robak administered first aid to the casualty, which prevented him from bleeding to death. Then, instead of making his way back to our lines as darkness fell, Sergeant Robak elected to remain and protect his comrade despite great danger from enemy infiltration. A rescue patrol found the men after dark and conducted them safely to the American lines. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
