The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Charles G. Reimolds (ASN: 16015445), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 148th Infantry Regiment, 37th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy at Luzon, Philippine Islands, on 9 and 11 February 1945. Private Reimolds, a rocket launcher operator, crawled under intense hostile machine gun and rifle fire to a position 25 yards from two Japanese pillboxes, launched several rockets into the enemy positions and killed all 12 of the occupants. Several days later he dashed into a street between two enemy-held buildings containing one heavy and two light enemy machine guns, and brought his rocket fire to bear on the enemy installations. In the face of continuous concentrated fire he launched eleven rockets into the Japanese positions which killed ten enemy soldiers and knocked out the installations. Shortly thereafter, Private Reimolds observed some enemy soldiers escaping into a house. Fully exposed to the enemy fire, he launched a white phosphorous rocket into the building and drove its four occupants out into the open. Fragments of white phosphorous hit and painfully wounded him, but Private Reimolds remained to assist his companions in killing the four Japanese. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
