The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Richard G. Quick (ASN: 35762177), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 37th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy at Luzon, Philippine Islands. As aid man attached to the leading platoon during the attack against Hill B, Balete Pass, on 8 May 1945, Private Quick repeatedly exposed himself to enemy fire in order to rescue wounded men and administer first aid. He crawled in front of the most advanced infantry on one occasion to aid a wounded scout. Later, the aid man of another platoon was wounded, and Private Quick assumed the responsibility of caring for both platoons. Throughout the entire day of hand fighting he gave medical attention to at least 15 seriously wounded men, and numerous minor casualties. Private Quick’s courageous actions were instrumental in saving the lives of several wounded comrades. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
