The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Frederic P. Procissi (ASN: 0-1307998), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Headquarters Company, 129th Infantry Regiment, 37th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy at Luzon, Philippine Islands. As a mine platoon leader during the action at Fort Stotsenburg on 1 February 1945, Lieutenant Procissi exhibited outstanding courage and efficiency in accomplishing a hazardous assignment. He reconnoitered an area to the front of our most advanced elements, and worked under intense enemy machine gun fire for eight hours in order to determine the location and pattern of a Japanese mine field. Later he led tanks through the breached minefield in a successful attack against strong hostile positions. Lieutenant Procissi’s heroic achievement contributed immeasurably to the success of the attack on one of the hills which barred the securing of Clark Field. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
