Headquarters, 37th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 120 (May 19, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fifth Grade Wilson E. Plue (ASN: 20502753), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company G, 2d Battalion, 145th Infantry Regiment, 37th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy at Luzon, Philippine Islands, on 23 February, 1945. Corporal Plue, a company artificer, while at his unit’s rear command post, learned of the urgent need for ammunition at the forward position. He immediately gathered up ammunition and worked his way forward through an area which offered little cover or concealment and was covered by intense hostile mortar fire. As the ammunition was being distributed to the soldiers, the enemy placed a barrage of 90-mm. shells in the company area, wounding men on all sides. Disregarding his own personal safety, Corporal Plue remained in the area to administer aid to the casualties. He later assisted in the evacuation of the wounded to the rear area over the same hazardous route which he had previously traversed. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
