Headquarters, 37th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 106 (May 4, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant [then Private First Class] Daniel Pintamo (ASN: 36196887), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company G, 2d Battalion, 129th Infantry Regiment, 37th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy at Luzon, Philippine Islands, on 31 January, 1945. As Private Pintamo’s company advanced against an enemy-held hill, surprise enemy machine gun and rifle fire raked the left flank. Private Pintamo, as assistant gunner and loader of a rocket launcher team, volunteered to knock out the enemy emplacement. Despite heavy enemy fire, he and his teammate crept and crawled to a firing position over an area that offered little cover or concealment, and with three well placed rocket hits destroyed the pillbox. Later, six dead Japanese and three heavy machine guns were found in the enemy position. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
