The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Henry Perez (ASN: 38553295), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company C, 1st Battalion, 129th Infantry Regiment, 37th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy at Luzon, Philippine Islands, on 12 February 1945. When a member of their platoon was wounded by enemy 40-mm. gun fire in Manila, Private First Class Henry Perez and Private First Class Ralph G. Petry left covered positions and rushed to the side of the casualty. Despite the fact that bursting shell fragments were flying all around, the two men rolled the casualty onto an improvised litter and carried him 100 yards to the protection of a bomb crater. There they administered first aid for a period of 45 minutes until the hostile fire had been silenced and medical aid men could move forward and evacuate the wounded. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Private First Class Perez, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
