The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Peter F. Oros (ASN: 36986691), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 148th Infantry Regiment, 37th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in the Philippine Islands, on 10 June 1945. When the advance of his infantry company was halted by intense hostile fire emanating from well-camouflaged and well-entrenched positions in a heavily wooded area near Lantap, worked his way forward in the face of the enemy fire. By accurately firing his rifle and throwing hand grenades he succeeded in clearing five enemy foxholes and destroying an enemy machine gun. Private First Class Oros’ gallant actions breached the Japanese defense line, enabled the remainder of his platoon to make a concerted attack, and allowed aid men to come forward and evacuate several seriously wounded men. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Private First Class Oros, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
