The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Allan S. Norlin (ASN: 17053368), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 37th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy at Luzon, Philippine Islands, on 11 February 1945. While moving forward to make a river crossing, Private Norlin’s company was subjected to an intense enemy mortar and artillery barrage, and the lead scout was severely wounded. Private Norlin who was running behind the injured man, immediately stopped and carried him to a partially covered position, although the intensity of the hostile concentration was constantly increasing. After administering first aid, he searched for the company aid man and learned that he too was wounded. Private Norlin then ran back to secure a litter team, but found they were extremely busy carrying out casualties. Returning to his comrade, Private Norlin placed him on his shoulders and carried him 100 yards to the battalion aid station under the continued heavy shelling. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
