The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Gerald Miller (ASN: 20603778), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company M, 3d Battalion, 129th Infantry Regiment, 37th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy at Luzon, Philippine Islands, on 30 January 1945. Sergeant Miller courageously exposed himself to devastating enemy tank fire to rescue a companion who was helplessly wounded and lay in an open area. After dragging the man 30 yards to safety, Sergeant Miller gave medical treatment which saved his life. Then, seeing a second wounded man out in the open, Sergeant Miller started to his side, but was seriously wounded in both legs as he moved forward. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
