The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Boyce McCravey (ASN: 34648700), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Headquarters, 3d Battalion, 145th Infantry Regiment, 37th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy at Luzon, Philippine Islands. During the attack against Mount Binicayan on 5 May 1945, a member of Private McCravey’s company was seriously wounded by enemy machine gun fire. After darkness had fallen, Private McCravey and a companion volunteered to rescue the wounded man. Despite poor visibility and difficult terrain, these two men successfully accomplished their hazardous mission and saved the life of the injured man. Private McCravey was fatally wounded later by a Japanese machine gun. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
