The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Sergeant Charlie J. Krzic (ASN: 35005110), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company G, 2d Battalion, 145th Infantry Regiment, 37th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy at Luzon, Philippine Islands, on 26 January 1945. When three of his comrades were struck down by an enemy artillery shell near Cark Field, Sergeant Krzic courageously rushed from his covered position under the continual hostile fire in order to determine whether any of the seriously wounded Americans were alive. While crawling from one body to another, he was fatally wounded by another Japanese shell. Sergeant Krzic’s courage and devotion to his fellow soldiers exemplified the finest traditions of the Armed Forces.
