Headquarters, 37th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 165 (June 26, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Dale W. Kinslow (ASN: 39127169), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company I, 3d Battalion, 145th Infantry Regiment, 37th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy at Luzon, Philippine Islands, on 1 March 1945. When a by-passed group of enemy in a building harassed our troops, Sergeant Kinslow led his squad in an attempt to neutralize the position. He maneuvered his men to within 10 yards of the structure, and then personally entered the building where he found a sand-bagged barricade from behind which the Japanese were directing heavy fire at our troops. Creeping and crawling through the room’s wreckage, Sergeant Kinslow moved to within 10 feet of the barricade, and then, boldly leaping to his feet, he threw hand grenades at the startled enemy and charged the position. Sergeant Kinslow killed two of the Japanese in hand-to-hand combat, and three others fled from the building where they were killed by other members of the squad. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
