The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Carlos Singh Kakar (ASN: 39289872), United States Army, for gallantry in action against the enemy while serving with the 148th Infantry Regiment, 37th Infantry Division, in action at Luzon, Philippine Islands, 8 February 1945. In the attack at the Paco Railroad Station a Japanese force operating three machine guns was by-passed. One of our machine gun sections was ordered to engaged this opposition but found that only two of the enemy guns could be neutralized. Private First Class Kakar crawled from his covered position through machine gun and rifle fire to a spot where he was able to bring effective fire on the third weapon so that is crew could not employ it successfully. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Private First Class Kakar, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
