Headquarters, 37th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 146 (June 7, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fourth Grade Frank E. Jordan (ASN: 36414172), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the Medical Detachment, 129th Infantry Regiment, 37th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy at Luzon, Philippine Islands, on 28 January 1945. As leader of a litter squad, Sergeant Jordan repeatedly braved intense enemy fire to evacuate casualties during an attack against strong enemy positions. On one occasion he crawled forward under the covering fire of friendly tanks to administer aid to three seriously wounded men, and another time he went forward, despite hostile rifle fire which was constantly directed at him, in order to treat an injured comrade. Sergeant Jordan’s courageous leadership inspired the members of his litter team to emulate his deeds and helped save the lives of many wounded Americans. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
