The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Charles R. Jones (ASN: 39700384), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the Medical Detachment, 145th Infantry Regiment, 37th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy at Luzon, Philippine Islands, on 18 February 1945. Private Jones, a medical aid man attached to an infantry company, displayed outstanding courage in rescuing a wounded man. The injured soldier lay completely exposed to hostile fire, but Private Jones unhesitatingly rushed into the clearing, seized the casualty, and dragged him to a covered position, where he immediately administered first aid. His courageous action and skillful treatment saved the wounded man’s life. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
