The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fifth Grade Adolph H. Hanson (ASN: 37543387), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the Medical Detachment, 129th Infantry Regiment, 37th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy at Luzon, Philippine Islands, on 1 February 1945. Corporal Hanson displayed outstanding courage as a company aid man by continually exposing himself to intense enemy twenty millimeter and machine gun fire to administer first aid and help evacuate wounded comrades. Once he left his position of cover to give treatment and drag two wounded men to safety from the top of a hill raked by enemy fire. Another time Corporal Hanson voluntarily made three trips, each time for a distance of seventy-five yards under heavy hostile fire, to treat a total of six casualties in an adjoining company. On a third occasion, at night, he again went to an adjacent company to treat wounded men, although forced to crawl and feel his way for sixty yards because of the almost complete invisibility. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
