Headquarters, 37th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 206 (July 26, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technical Sergeant [then Staff Sergeant] Percival C. Hansen (ASN: 19118968), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company K, 3d Battalion, 145th Infantry Regiment, 37th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy at Luzon, Philippine Islands. During the action at Mount Pacawagan on 23 April 1945, Sergeant Hansen’s platoon was halted by intense enemy fire, and three men were seriously wounded. The casualties lay over a slight rise in the ground completely exposed to the hostile fire, but Sergeant Hansen courageously crawled forward three times and pulled each man back to the safety of our lines, where they received badly needed medical aid. Sergeant Hansen’s heroic action was in the highest tradition of the armed forces.
