Headquarters, 37th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 299 (September 16, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Allan F. Glover (ASN: 20516179), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 136th Field Artillery Battalion, 37th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in the Philippine Islands, on 4 June 1945. Private First Class Glover volunteered to accompany a scouting party which was assigned the mission of searching for enemy soldiers near the position of his field artillery battery at Yangiran. The patrol soon contacted the Japanese in a wooded ravine, and in the initial exchange of shots a member of our forces was wounded and lay helpless in a position fully exposed to hostile fire. To reach the fallen man it was necessary to cross a gully about thirty feet wide under enemy fire, and then to cross a flat open stretch of about 30 yards also swept by hostile small arms fire. Private First Class Glover left his covered position and crawled across the gully, but was forced to return to his original location because of Japanese fire. Waiting until a lull in the firing occurred, Private First Class Glover again left his secure position, courageously crawled to where the casualty lay, and succeeded in dragging him back to safety. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Private First Class Glover, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
